The IJ Dance Ensemble comprises of the Dance Ensemble and the Cheerleading Team.

Over the past years, the IJ Dance Ensemble has excelled in both modern dance as well as hip hop and cheerleading. Under the guidance of choreographer and instructor Zaki, the Dance Ensemble was awarded the prestigious Gold Award for the biennial ‘Singapore Youth Festival’ (SYF) in 2003 and 2005. It also won top honours in the annual anti-drug dance competition, DanceWorks! from 2004 to 2006.  In addition, the Dance Ensemble is much sought after and has performed for the Chinese New Year celebrations at the Police Headquarters and NTU Hall 4 Charity Drive at the Toa Payoh Hub.

In both groups, producing performances of artistic integrity require a high level of skill, form, artistry, discipline, teamwork and perseverance. All the performers have to go through a rigorous dance programme involving the major genres of dance such as Hip Hop, Modern Jazz, Contemporary, Tap and Ballet. In addition, senior performers are also nurtured to choreograph dances and routines, manage performances and assist in lighting design, stage management and costume design.

The Dance Ensemble aims to nurture and build every dancer’s individual talent, grace and poise. It is a collaboration of many dancers to form one body and one team. It is a gathering of dedicated, passionate and resolute people who come together to ensure that their commitment and passion in dance is caught by all who join the Dance Ensemble. From the artists and teachers to the artistic management team, the IJ Dance Ensemble family works tirelessly to overcome all obstacles and barriers so as to stay true to their unique vision of live performance.
