This
year’s Student Investiture was a lively one, with
the theme ‘Caritas’. Student leaders from other
schools, including Beatty Secondary School, Cedar Girls
Secondary School, CHIJ St. Joseph Secondary School. Parents,
visitors, teachers and our own ex-student leaders were invited
to this event. Student leaders such as councillors, house
captains, CCA leaders and chairpersons from each class,
were commissioned and acknowledged as student leaders.
Firstly,
everyone who attended this event rose from their seats to
sing the school song, followed by the mass, conducted by
Fr. Michael. When the mass ended, Father Michael received
a token of appreciation by the councillors for conducting
the mass. The opening speech was given by our Principal,
Mrs. Regina Lee. She encouraged us to consider that being
a good leader is one who serves others, as well as for God.
The second speech was given by the Guest-of-Honour, Sister
Grace. She talked about the qualities and virtues of a leader,
one of them, which is service to others in his/her school.
She told us to live as our true-selves, to exercise our
given talents well, and to use them to be stewards of God
Next,
was the investiture of the Student Council Executive, with
their insignia of office presented by Sister Grace. The
President of Student Council, Gwen Yi Fen gave a speech,
which encouraged the newly invested leaders to empower and
reach out to their peers by using Father Barre as an example.
After the installation of the student leaders, they took
the student leaders’ pledge, followed by the lighting
of the candles and the singing of the hymn, ‘Pass
It On’. The formal proceedings ended with a token
of appreciation given to both Mrs. Lee and Sister Grace.
A
short video was shown which showcased the new premises of
our school, our students and the various types of CCAs,
activities and events that are held in the school. This
was followed by skit written and acted by the student councillors
called ‘Char Kuay Teow Love’, a parody of Romeo
and Juliet set in a coffee-shop. The investiture ended with
the councillors singing our very own song, ‘Caritas:
Share the Love’; “The IJ Spirit is Burning,
and the cheer ‘IJ Komama’.
A
reception for students and guests followed the Investiture.
Everyone present had a memorable and enjoyable experience.
