Report
on HIJ 1st Coy’s Annual Campfire 2007
HIJ 1st Coy held its annual campfire on Tuesday, 19th June
2007. The theme for this campfire is RIDE ‘EM COWBOY.
Before the campfire, guests were invited to the pre-campfire
show held in the hall. They were entertained, by Joyce and
Regina, while waiting for Scouts and Guides from other schools
to arrive. The enthusiastic pair brought much excitement
to the audience.
At about 7.00pm, the ushers led the Scouts and Guides down
to the parade square and ensured that they were seated and
ready when the Guest-of-Honour arrived. The schools started
saying cheers and singing songs. Soon it was time to welcome
the Guest-of-Honour, Mrs. Regina Lee to say a few words
before the commencement of the campfire. Mrs. Lee was invited
to light up the fire-pit as well. She was rather experienced,
as she had done it previously during the Secondary One Orientation
Campfire this year. We would like to thank her for being
so sporting.
The school was beautifully decorated, with the impressive
backdrop and the horses hung up in the canteen. There was
also a structure at the car park where guests had to walk
on. It was a bridge about a metre above the ground.
The campfire started off with the introduction of schools.
The Scouts and Guides cheered really loudly whenever the
names of the schools were mentioned. The emcees for the
campfire, Yi Fen and Gayathri (more affectionately known
as ‘Gaya’), led everyone in the cheers and songs.
Items were put up by Scouts from other schools (St. Gabriel’s
Secondary and Maris Stella), and also by Guides from HIJ
1st Coy. There was even a surprise item put up by the committee
for the campfire. The audience enjoyed the performances
very much.
It was soon time for the campfire to end. Souvenirs were
given out to those schools that took time off specially
to attend the campfire. It was a miniature version of a
totem pole. Special awards were given to those who won Best
Item Award, Most Enthusiastic Award and Early bird Award
too. It was a yellow star wearing a cowboy hat. The Guides
in charge of making the souvenirs put in a lot of effort
to make sure the souvenirs looked nice.
We sang one last song to end off the campfire. The guests
then proceeded to the canteen for refreshments. The Guides
of HIJ 1st Coy deeply appreciates the Scouts, Guides, VIPs
and of course, the seniors of HIJ 1st Coy for attending
the campfire. Many thanks to those who helped make this
campfire a huge success.
