A. Admission to CHIJ Secondary
1. What is Direct
School Admission (DSA)?
Direct School Admission (DSA) gives schools
the flexibility in selecting students in the niche areas as
specified by the individual schools. This also allows Primary
6 students to be recognised on a more diverse range of achievements
and talents.
2. Is there an
admission quota for DSA in CHIJ Secondary?
CHIJ Secondary, an Autonomous School,
has the right to admit 10% of Secondary 1 students via DSA.
3. How much flexibility
is given to CHIJ Secondary to select students?
Schools can decide their own admission
criteria. However, primary school students must achieve PSLE
results that would enable them to be eligible for admission
to the stream/course being offered by the school.
4. Can I apply
to CHIJ Secondary through another CCA not listed in the school's
niche areas?
CHIJ Secondary will consider the request
if the student excels exceptionally, with proven records of
achievements and awards. The student should contact the DSA
Coordinator directly.
5. Must I still sit for PSLE if I have received
a Confirmed Offer (CO) for CHIJ Secondary?
Yes, all students must sit for the PSLE.
6. Can a student
below Primary 6 apply for DSA?
No, admission to Secondary 1 is only
for Primary 6 students or its equivalent.
7. What is the
closing date for submission of DSA application to CHIJ Secondary?
The closing date for submission is
30
June 2007 5pm. Late applications
will not be considered.
8. Can I still opt for CHIJ Secondary
in the Posting Exercise if I do not make it through the selection
rounds?
Yes, you can still choose CHIJ Secondary
in the Centralised Posting Exercise, after you have received
your PSLE results. However, this admission will be solely based
on your PSLE results and availability of places in the school.

B. CHIJ Selection Process
1. How does CHIJ
Secondary select the students?
Trials will be conducted by the respective
CCA Teacher-in-Charge and coaches.
- Art Elective Programme (AEP)
Students will sit for an art test conducted
by the AEP teachers.
Students
will present their portfolio of Math and Science to the STAR
Plus Programme Teacher/s-in-Charge in school.
Short-listed applicants after the trials/test/presentation
will sit for an interview scheduled on 3, 6
or 7 August 2007.
2. When will I
be notified of the trials/test/ presentation?
Notification will be made by post/phone
to applicants informing them of the trials, test or presentation
dates, reporting time, and venue. You will be notified by 6
July 2007.
3. Will I receive
a letter if I am not short-listed for the interview?
Yes, you will receive a notification
letter if you are not short-listed for the
interview. You will be notified of the outcome of your trials/test/presentation
by 27 July 2007.
4. When will I
know if I have been selected?
The outcome of applications will be
released by 22 August 2007.
5. Do I still have to take part in the MOE Posting
Exercise if I am selected by CHIJ Secondary?
No, you do not have to take part in the
Centralised Posting Exercise. If you are successful in the DSA,
you will be informed of the school that you have been admitted
to during the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise.
However, you will still be issued an
Option form. If you are eligible for elective programmes, you
will be given the option to indicate your interest in the Option
Form.
